In June, 2019, The Stamps of Life came out with a really fun card base called Word Stand-Ups Die set that includes the word “Hello”. As an add on, you could also purchase the word stand-up extras set that includes: Love, Thanks and Smile. In October, TSOL has now released a Christmas word stand-up extras set that includes: HO HO HO, Merry, and Noel. I thought it would be fun to show you another way to use these dies for a different look. If you were to use them as intended, you first need the card base die set and then whatever word you choose. When finished, your word would stand up off of the top of an easel card. The method I am about to show you does not require the card base, only the actual word and some cardstock. By cutting and scoring your paper a little differently, you can turn the word dies into a step up card.
Cardstock Cut and Score Instructions:
Start with cardstock that is 5 1/2 x 11 inches. With the cardstock longest left to right, score at 1 1/2; 3; and 7 inches. If you want to add layers, you will need 1 layer that is 1 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches; and two layers that are 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches (one in plain paper for the inside sentiment and one in patterned paper for the outside).
From left to right you will need to mountain fold, valley fold and mountain fold as shown above.
Cutting The “Word” Into Your Cardstock
Carefully place your “word” in the second 1 1/2 inch section as shown above and run it through your cutting machine. I highly recommend taping it down to keep it in place. I also recommend that you attach embellishments and layers AFTER this step.
Decorating Your Card
For this step, you can do whatever you want. I think adding patterned paper and an extra layer of the word is really all you need. As you can see above, I also added 3 trees for some added decoration.
For this card, I think the paper is busy enough and did not need added die cuts.
Your Finished Cards
When finished, you can see your cards fold flat and will fit in a regular A2 envelope for mailing.
I hope you will give this a try and let me know if you like the results. Please share your creations – I would love to see what you make! Happy Crafting!!
