Trying to come up with unique ideas for Birthday cards is always a challenge for me because I make so many each year. I really do try to make cards that I know will be appreciated by the receiver. For this card, I took a stab in the dark!! I find it most difficult to design cards for men and teens/young adults. My nephew fits both of those categories because he is turning 21 ( I have 6 nephews and 3 nieces). So now you can see my dilemma!
I have had this stamp and die set from mftstamps for a while and I really wanted to use it! So I went for it. I started with a card base from sizzix called the regal stand-up die set. I love cards that are three dimensional or have some type of movement. Stephanie Barnard from the Stamps of Life makes it so easy. Her dies do all the measuring for you. Once I had the base together I stamped and die cut the food container, the chop sticks and cookies. I used several of the phrase stamps for the fortunes. I decided not to glue down the edges so they would look more realistic. I used distress ink by Tim Holtz on several of the edges of the cut outs for added dimension. I used the Misti tool to ensure my stamped images were consistent. The Misti is one of the greatest craft inventions of the century!
The card is simple, but it works! I met my nephew up at college last week and gave him his card early. He loved it! Success! Happy 21st Birthday Jack!
